Basic Flower Care and Must-knows

Here at The Weekend Florist, every bouquet that is created is unique and one of a kind. To best represent the colour palette you have selected, we create with seasonal flowers and foliage. Each bouquet is freshly sent to you so you can enjoy them for as long as you can. Want to enjoy it even longer? It's possible! We recommend these few steps to make the process quick and easy for you.

First, prepare a vase with clean water and add some flower food provided in TWF packaging. If you don't have flower food, you can proceed with just clean water in the vase.
Next, unwrap your bouquet and remove the cotton wool and plastic bag.
Once done, trim the stems by (estimated) 2cm at a 45 degrees angle.
Finally, place the freshly trimmed bouquet into the vase of water and you're done!

The flower food to water ratio should be 1:1 (1 packet to 1L of water). If you're using lesser water, please work out the proportion.

If you notice a change in the water from clear to cloudy, you should immediately throw it out and refill the vase with clean water. Bacteria will eventually build up in the vase even with flower food, which can clog stems and leave your bouquet thirsty. Remove any dead or wilting stems, and clean and rinse the vase thoroughly before refilling.

Direct sunlight is known to be one of the factors to cause wilting. Cut flowers last longer in cool conditions so do keep them away from heat sources. This includes placing them near a window or television.

Fun fact: Apples and other fruit give off ethylene gas which causes flowers to deteriorate. Keep your flowers away from fruit bowls, especially if it contains apples.
